Watching Vince Carter rise up and seem to float in the air during the NBA All-Star game, while amazing, only seems to underscore for me the fact that he was out and out dogging it while he was in Toronto during the beginning of the season. The amount of hangtime on that one play negates all the previous injury whispers about Carter that he doesn't have any lift in his legs anymore and that is why he isn't the same player as a few years ago. Why is he getting almost no scrutiny then for his previous sour puss days in Toronto, contrasted with his high flying current status in New Jersey. His admission that he didn't always play as hard as he could during his Toronto stint (a thinly veiled admission of just plain not trying) was talking-head fodder for a few days, but Carter now has seemed to slip back into the good graces of the fans as well as the media. The lack of any meaningful resolution to Carters lazy play in Toronto is just another symptom in the fans inbility to hold athletes accountable for their transgressions anymore (See Bonds, Barry).
